President's Welcome
IFCSE President’s Welcome
Hello, Family and Consumer Sciences teachers! Welcome to the Iowa Family and Consumer Sciences Educators Association.
Life is full of adventures. My journey to becoming your President has had many twists and turns, and I am grateful for every moment. I began my journey in education by teaching third and fourth grade at a private school. Circumstances sent me on a detour for a couple of years before being offered the opportunity to teach FCS for middle and high school students in a small Eastern Iowa town. I may have changed school districts but my FCS pathway has stayed true. That is much thanks to the phenomenal mentors and colleagues I have met along the way. And where did I meet these FCS influencers? Regional professional development and state conferences like IFCSE and Iowa ACTE.
Our goal at IFCSE is to keep you updated on changes at the state level, and new trends in FCS teaching practices, while offering valuable networking with FCS educators. From establishing FCCLA chapters within our programs to exploring new and engaging lessons, you can count on IFCSE.
The past President Nancy Johnson said it well, “Family and Consumer Sciences is in a unique position within CTE. Not only do we teach with hands-on activities for our careers, but we also teach each student how to be a better individual, a family member, and a community member.”
I’m honored to be your president and excited to take our next adventure together!
Sincerely yours,
Marjorie Lane
2024 IFCSE President

It's not about how much you do, but how much love you put into what you do that counts.
